We've all been there. You get to the gym in fresh gear and a few minutes into your workout wonder if that smell is the person on the next machine or you?!
Getting the stink out of gym clothes can be a challenge but there are some natural and effective ways to remove odours and avoid embarrassment. Start with these tips for washing:
Turn clothes inside out before washing (since the sweat, oils, and bacteria from your body accumulate on the inside of the clothes).
Give your clothes a sniff before placing in the dryer. (You don't want to "cook" the smells in.)
Wash clothes as soon as possible after wearing.
If possible, let sweaty clothes air out immediately rather than stuffing them into a plastic bag or hamper.
Don't use more detergent than recommended or overstuff the machine, both of which make it harder for clothes to rinse clean.
There are also two natural products you can use to get the smell out:
Baking soda is a known deodorizer so this works really well. Just add a cup to your washer with your detergent.
Pre-soaking your clothes in vinegar is another great method. You can do this in your washer or in a tub or bucket before adding to your machine. You should use cold water and let clothes soak for at least 30 minutes. Then wash with detergent as usual.
Not only are these methods effective but they are inexpensive and typically readily available at home. You can also combine the pre-soak with the baking soda for that serious one-two punch!
