Bloor Street Fitness and Boxing's second floor studio has been closed to our regular membership on Sundays between 1:00 - 6:00 pm since the spring and we wanted to take this opportunity to let you know about the program running at that time.
Shape Your Life (SYL) is a free, recreational boxing program for self-identified women who have experienced violence/trauma. The program operates as a partnership between Joanne Green, Executive Director with Opportunity for Advancement and Dr. Cathy van Ingen, Associate Professor in Kinesiology at Brock University.
Since the program began in 2007, more than 1,300 women, girls and trans-identifying people have participated in Shape Your Life. In the spring of 2017, Shape Your Life relocated to Bloor Street Fitness and Boxing which provides a great and welcoming program space as well as accessibility to public transit. The SYL program coaches are certified level boxing coaches with Boxing Ontario.
SYL’s head coach, Melinda Watpool is a 4x Elite National Boxing Champion in the 81kg Heavyweight division and trains with Dewith Frazer at Dewith’s Boxing Studio in Mississauga.
We are very proud to support this important program and appreciate the understanding of our members during the closure of the studio.
